Several leaks and early beta builds suggest that Google is testing major Android changes that could significantly alter how people interact with their phones. The updates focus on AI automation, faster performance, and redesigned controls—features that may roll out in upcoming Android versions.

1️⃣ AI That Can Use Apps for You

One of the biggest changes comes from Google’s Gemini AI integration. New experimental features allow the AI assistant to complete tasks across apps automatically.

For example, Gemini can:

  • Order food or book rides

  • Fill in forms inside apps

  • Navigate menus and complete actions

Instead of opening multiple apps, users could simply tell the AI what they want, and the system performs the steps automatically. Early demonstrations show the AI interacting with apps and asking for confirmation before finishing tasks.

👉 If this expands widely, your phone could act more like a personal digital agent than just an app launcher.

2️⃣ Faster Phones Without Buying New Hardware

Google is also testing deep performance optimizations in the Android kernel.

A technology called AutoFDO (Automatic Feedback-Directed Optimization) analyzes how people actually use their phones and prioritizes frequently used code. This can lead to:

  • Faster app launches

  • Faster boot times

  • Better battery life

Internal tests already showed ~4% faster app launches and improved responsiveness on Pixel devices.

👉 The big idea: Older phones could feel faster without upgrading hardware.

3️⃣ A Completely New Notification & Quick Settings System

Another change being tested in Android builds is a new gesture-based interface for notifications and quick settings.

Possible redesign:

  • Swipe left side of the screen → notifications

  • Swipe right side → quick settings

This separates the two panels, making them easier to access quickly.

Google is also experimenting with restoring separate Wi-Fi and Internet toggles, allowing faster connectivity control.

4️⃣ Major Improvements to the Camera System

Google is also testing a feature called Dynamic Camera Sessions.

Currently, switching between photo and video can cause a small delay. The new system allows the camera to change modes instantly without restarting the camera session, making the camera feel much faster.

5️⃣ AI Gaming Assistant Overlay

Another experimental feature is an AI gaming overlay for Android games.

It can provide:

  • Real-time gameplay tips

  • Quick access to achievements

  • Streaming tools and game controls

The overlay works inside supported games and uses AI to help players while they are playing.

Why this update matters

If these features roll out widely, Android phones may change in three big ways:

  • AI becomes the main interface instead of apps

  • Phones get faster automatically through smarter system optimization

  • The Android interface becomes more gesture-driven and customizable

Many of these features are still in testing and could appear in Android 17 or later updates.
