Nokia-Siemens to shut its Fixed-Line factory in Kolkata due to Declining Demand and Unprofitability

Just received this news. Nokia-Siemens, the joint venture between Nokia and Simens is going to shut down its fixed line equipment production plant located at Salt Lake, Kolkata, India from July 31.

The reason that the company is giving is the gradual decline in the demand of Fixed-Line components and company’s strategy to focus more on Mobile broadband equipments. Company also recorded unprofitability as another reason which resulted in the closure.

Closure of Kolkata manufacturing center is seen as part of NSN’s earlier announced plan that it will cut off 17,000 staff world-wide as part of a major global restructuring to focus on more profitable operations.
