Windows Phone Share Q4 16

Microsoft’s earnings for Q4 2015 revealed that Lumia sales plummeted from1 10.5 million in Q4 2014 to 4.5 million in Q4 2015. The credit for this steep decline goes in part to Microsoft’s revamped strategy and also the fact that they have been too slow to react to mounting competition. Anyways, Gartner has released its analysis of Smartphone market share for Q4 and it doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

As per the analysis, only 4.39 million Windows Phone devices were sold in the quarter, counting for just 1.1% of global smartphone market share. Last year during the same period Windows Phone held 2.8% market share and had shipped 10.42 million devices. Figures from Gartner and Microsoft  tally well and while 1.1% market share seems too insignificant, Microsoft may be banking on vendors to push market share while it will keep making reference devices just what it did with Surface. Latest surge of new Windows 10 Mobile devices from different vendors shows some positive momentum at that end.
