Windows 10 Mobile life cycle

First Lumia devices running Windows 10 Mobile are already out in market and Windows 10 Mobile may soon be released to the first eligible list of device running Windows Phone 8.1. Now, the Lifecycle documentation that gives some idea about the official release and support end dates for a particular OS variant is live for Windows 10 Mobile for both business and consumer versions.

It seems Windows 10 Mobile release dates for both Consumer and Business versions were November 16, one day before Lumia 950 went live on AT&T. The support end date provided however is more interesting and seems the Mainstream support date is January 8, 2019. So, is there a mega-update or refresh planned on 2019 or will Microsoft add a “Review Note” when the next big update for Windows 10 Mobile will land in 2016??

Microsoft will make updates available for the Operating System, including security updates, for a minimum of 36 months after the lifecycle start date. These updates will be incremental, with each update built on the update that preceded it. Customers need to install each update in order to remain supported. The distribution of these incremental updates may be controlled by the mobile operator or the phone manufacturer from which you purchased your phone, and installation will require that your phone have any prior updates. Update availability will also vary by country, region, and hardware capabilities.
