A recent report for analyst firm Counterpoint Research reveals that Nokia is the leading brand when it comes to keeping smartphones updated in terms of both OS and security updates. As per the report, nearly 96% of Nokia smartphones are already running on Android Pie or have had an Android Pie update issued to them, making it the fastest brand to reach this level.

Samsung is the second-ranked smartphone brand in the list that closely follows Nokia with 89% smartphones on Pie already.

Nokia smartphones are also the fastest in receiving updates, as 94% of Nokia smartphones were upgraded within a year of the launch of the latest Android version.

The report also highlights how all Nokia smartphones are most likely to receive the latest Android updates irrespective of the price range they belong to, while other manufacturers focus highly on their top-end smartphones.

According to Research Analyst, Abhilash Kumar, “High-priced devices are often updated first, but having the latest software is as important to mid- and low-priced products as it is to flagship devices. By this analysis, Nokia stands out, again, as the brand most likely to update its full portfolio quickly. Xiaomi and Lenovo also rank high in this metric. Brands like Alcatel and Tecno are the laggards.
