NSN has been chosen by Malaysia’s top operator Celcom for building its LTE network in Klang Valley which comprises Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding suburbs. As per the press release the roll out will happen across Malaysia and that may give more business to NSN.

Celcom Axiata Berhad (Celcom), Malaysia’s first and foremost mobile telecommunications provider and a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Axiata Group Berhad, has partnered with Nokia Solutions and Networks for its LTE solutions and services in Klang Valley, which comprises Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding suburbs.

“Celcom’s Klang Valley network upgrades underline our commitment to delivering a superior service experience to our subscribers who will increasingly enjoy the results of our extensive LTE investments and rollouts throughout Malaysia,” said Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly, Chief Executive Officer of Celcom Axiata Berhad. “NSN’s consistency in providing quality infrastructure and services support was a key fit in our network blueprint for superior coverage across spectrums and the best end-user experience.

In another related news report, Reuters has been told from sources close to the matter that Nokia may be planning to buy whole of Alcatel or just its “Wireless division“.

Nokia is in a “period of reflection trying to figure out what they want to do,” one of the sources said. They said there were possibilities for Nokia such as having “the option to buy the entire Alcatel-Lucent, or just the wireless business … Nothing is imminent.”

If this deal goes through NSN will see its market share increasing from 18% to 30% and will find itself in a better position in US market where it has been weak till now.

The most likely deal may be for Nokia to buy Alcatel’s wireless division, which includes a big presence in the lucrative U.S. market where NSN has traditionally been weak, one of the sources said. That would leave Alcatel-Lucent to focus its fast-growing IP routing and optical business, the person said.

Analysts put the value of Alcatel’s wireless business at between 1.1 billion euros to 1.5 billion euros ($1.49 billion to $2.03 billion).

A combination with Alcatel-Lucent would increase NSN’s market share in the global wireless infrastructure market from 18 percent to more than 30 percent, leapfrogging Huawei and closing in on Ericsson, according to analyst data.
