Back in March, Nokia India had been slapped with a big tax demand by Indian IT department and subsequently its assets were frozen by IT authorities. If this dispute doesn’t get resolved before December 12th, Nokia may have to close its Chennai plant which employs 8,000 people, and with sub-contractors up to 30,000 people.

Nokia is planning to give shape to the transfer of its D&S division to Microsoft by December 12th and its frozen assets should be released before this date, if Chennai plant has to be part of the deal.

Though Nokia has offered to pay part of 3000 crore ($500 million) tax demand, but this offer has been met by rejection from IT department. Now, the Delhi High Court is going to take this case on 9th of December. Still, as per some reports Nokia may chose to continue operating the plant as contract manufacturer if it doesn’t become part of the deal.
