Nokia smartwatch 2We recently reported about Nokia’s smart wearables program being “alive and kicking”. Now it seems that Nokia may not be planning to launch just one wearable but is working on variety of wearable devices, a latest job opening reveals. The job listing is for a highly experienced “Senior Computational Biologist”, who will help in developing algorithms to analyse and make sense of physiological and biometric data received from consumers using variety of wearable devices worldwide. And, we are talking about consumer products here.

Coincidentally, couple of recent Nokia patents revealed an elegant smart band technology and many smart wearable designs. One of the patent talks about a health-oriented wearable band with ability to contract to enable proper contact with body to take correct health related data with help of sensors and and expand to provide comfort to users at other times. Another recent Nokia patent that we reported has many smart wearable designs and cool tech bits like hover interaction and notifications display.

Nokia is looking for highly experienced Specialists to develop state of the art algorithms for physiological and biometric datasets.  A successful candidate will apply the future of physiology science and leading edge technology and distil them into quantified and engaging solutions for consumers world-wide. As a member of the team, you will develop algorithms for extracting meaning from noisy data, and you will be able to precisely quantify the quality of the results, both from your own algorithms, but also from datasets that come from a variety of wearable devices.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with our product team and UX designers to show users the value of biometric data and the implications of that data to their overall health
  • Lead the development of algorithms based on signals from sensors — both in real-time and derived from large data sets of sensor data
  • Analyze data from a variety of physical and biological sensors
  • Decipher biometric patterns to construct the events that make up a user’s day to describe the habits of individuals.
  • Apply machine learning and data analysis to construct predictive models using a rich spectrum of data
  • Perform ad hoc statistical, data mining and machine learning analyses
