The smartphone market share report for Q2 2019 by analyst firm Canalys puts Nokia as the 5th top smartphone brand in Europe. Though, with an overall shipment of 1.2 million HMD has in fact lost market share year-on-year. In Q2 2018, 1.5 million Nokia smartphones were shipped in Europe.

So, in Q2 2019 Nokia brand had only 2.7% market share in Europe, a market that was always considered to be a traditionally strong market for Nokia.

While the sales decline in Europe may be a bit of a dampener, globally HMD has done comparatively well in the second quarter of 2019 growing Nokia smartphone shipments by 20% year on year. This ensured that Nokia remained the 9th top smartphone vendor in Q2 2019 too with 1.1 million shipments.

In Q2 2019, HMD launched and quickly made available it’s entry-level to low-end smartphone range in Nokia 2.2, 3.2 and 4.2. These smartphones come packed with eye-catching design and features like a dedicated Google Assistant button and notifications LED mated to the power button.

So, Q2 2019 brings not so good news from Europe. HMD needs to work hard on bringing better offerings for European buyers to compete with the likes of Xiaomi, which dwell on the price sensitivity of buyers to sell their smartphones.
