Microsoft newly launched Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL that run on Windows 10 Mobile build 10586 out of the box. The build is the RTM candidate for public release on existing Lumia devices running Windows Phone 8.1. The company recently released the cumulative update, build 10586.36 for Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL bringing some security fixes and improvements.

The cumulative updates was pushed directly from Microsoft without carriers approval, which gives advantage over Android. However At&t confirms that Lumia 950 will get monthly carrier-independent WAAS updates. AT&T said the following statement:

The 950 will be receiving monthly WaaS (Windows as a Service) updates, and the latest one released on December 8th (Build Version 10.0.10586.29.) These updates are not certified by AT&T, and will be delivered via Microsoft over-the-air. A Wi-Fi connection is required. From the App List, scroll down and tap Settings > Phone Update > Check for Update.

If Microsoft continue to push updates directly to the devices, this could help the OS to become more polished. Along with Lumia 950/XL, the Lumia 550 and older devices (after Windows 10 Mobile update) will also receive monthly updates.
