Is upgrading worth it? Lumia 822 to Lumia Icon

Every owner of a Lumia 928 to a Lumia 520 is waiting for their upgrade to come around or is wondering if they should pay to make the jump to a newer Lumia.  Well, I got my 822 free with an upgrade a while back and recently paid to bump up to the Lumia Icon.

So when you are looking at the difference in price, hardware, opinion, and Windows Phone 8.1, is it really worth making the jump?

Price:

Lumia 822

With upgrade: FREE

Retail: roughly $200

Lumia Icon

With upgrade: $100

Retail: $550

Hardware and Specs

Clearly the Hardware on the pricier phone will be better.

Software

With both of these phones running Windows Phone 8.1.  I will have our Windows Phone 8.1 speed test video below.

Final Thoughts

In the end it all comes down to if you want to shovel the cash out of your pocket, for a better camera, processor, and screen resolution.  In my opinion, it is not worth it, if I could go back to the day I bought my Lumia Icon, I would have decided to save the cash.  The only reason the little versus battle’s final result is leaning toward the 822 is because of the Window Phone 8.1 update.  You get all the top of the line features on every device.
