YouTube Desktop

In an announcement made on the official YouTube blog, Google has announced the possible redesign of the YouTube desktop experience. This new change is mostly targeted at the look and feel of the content, and makes it more easier to consume.

In order to put a highly intuitive user experience and beautiful design, Google will be taking advantage of Material Design. The Material Design (by Google) is a unified system that combines theory, resources, and tools for crafting digital experiences.

With Material Design, Google will be focusing on:

  • Simplicity: The only thing you should be concerned about is watching the content you love. The new design is clean and fresh, thanks to the removal of visuals that can distract from your browsing or watching experience. We’re focused on making the content shine!
  • Consistency: The new design is aligned across Google platforms, including the YouTube mobile app, while still providing the features you know and love.
  • Beauty: We strive to combine beauty and purpose to create an effortless experience.

Google is not only working on aesthetics, but also the site design. That is why the new YouTube desktop experience will be powered by a faster framework named Polymer. Although being in early stages, Google has already developed it first major feature built using Polymer: Dark Theme.

Yes, you can now apply a complete dark theme for entire YouTube website. To achieve this, click on your profile picture, click on Dark theme. Slide the toggle to On position and boom! You now have the Dark Theme. (Note: You should be running the new YouTube preview).
