As per a report, the cost of Qualcomm’s latest flagship processor Snapdragon 865 may be forcing many manufacturers including Nokia (HMD) to rather opt for cheaper processors like Snapdragon 765G. The report claims that the requirement of a separate chip “X55 Modem” for 4G and 5G connectivity may be making the cost of using Snapdragon 865 too high and thus resulting in more expensive smartphones.

Qualcomm makes it mandatory to bundle Snapdragon 865 with the X55 modem, making 5G a requirement for any Snapdragon 865 smartphone. So far Google and LG have been claimed by various sources to choose Snapdragon 765G over the Snapdragon 865 for their upcoming flagship smartphones Pixel 5, Pixel 5 XL and LG G9 ThinQ.

In the case of Nokia smartphones, HMD, however, is currently working on Nokia 9.2 or now it seems the Nokia 9.3, which will be powered by Snapdragon 865. It will be the true Nokia flagship and may even come with an under-display front camera.

Given this report about the cost of Snapdragon 865, one can now expect Nokia 9.2 or 9.3 to come at a higher price point than previously expected. Nokia 8.3 5G is the value flagship with affordability as one of its key features. It brings truly global 5G roaming support for the price of EUR 599, first for any 5G smartphone out there.
