After Blackberry owned QNX software solutions and Volvo, now Continental has announced partnership with HERE Maps to bring next generation telematics systems for advanced vehicle connectivity based on high precision map technology.

This high precision map technology will empower Continental’s Electronic Horizon platform enabling vehicles to continuously determine their position on the road to within 10-20 centimetres (3-8 inches). Continental aims to provide end-to-end connected Electronic Horizon solution based on HERE data and cloud services to vehicle manufacturers worldwide.

Only HERE Maps boasts of such end-to-end solution offering. From our earlier article,

HERE Auto Cloud is part of HERE’s Connected Driving “toolkit” which Nokia claims to be the only end-to-end driving solution on the market today. This will help car makers and in-vehicle technology suppliers connect the car and the driver to the cloud. The offering includes HERE Auto, the HERE Auto Companion App and HERE Auto Cloud.

According to Ralf Lenninger, Head of Interior Electronics Solutions, Continental,

“With precise map data from HERE and the connected Electronic Horizon, we will achieve advancements across all areas of today’s vehicle-based individual mobility,” said Ralf Lenninger, Head of Interior Electronics Solutions, Continental.

“With the connected Electronic Horizon, vehicle manufacturers will be able to reduce their vehicles’ CO2-footprint by at least two grams per kilometer. In addition, exact map data will make the driving experience more enjoyable and safe by providing useful information about road congestion so that drivers can predetermine alternate routes, as well as a way to adapt future LED headlight functions to the road ahead.”
